It's not everyday we see a dSLR clad in red. Typically, such cameras are available in the more somber black or silver color. However, Pentax's latest entry-level dSLR, the
K-x, will be available in red, navy blue, white and black.
Like its predecessor, the
K-m, the 12-megapixel K-x runs on four AA-sized batteries. The rear houses a 2.7-inch LCD. To keep up with trends, the shooter can record 720p-quality videos at 24 frames per second (fps). Other features include an 11-point autofocus system which is used in the K-7, HDR bracketing for high dynamic range shots, and creative filters similar to Olympus' Art Filters. The K-x's burst rate is rated at 4.7fps, which is faster than rival models such as the Canon
EOS 500D (3.4fps) and Nikon
D5000 (4fps).
The Pextax K-x will be available in the US come October for an entry-level price of US$649.95 with the 18-55mm kit lens. Pricing and availability for Asia will be announced at a later date.
