Philips BDP7500
Two new Philips Blu-ray players have been announced at IFA 2009 taking place in Berlin. The BDP7500 and BDP9500 are both armored like battle tanks, with the latter encased in aluminum that's 3mm thick. Other common aesthetics-oriented touches include a mirror finish and subtle blue bling. Like most 2009 entries, these models are BD-Live-enabled to download interactive Web content and will fully support high-resolution Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio surround sound.
What's unique for the Philips kits are their DivX Ultra-compatibility which is still relatively rare in current Blu-ray players. The flagship BDP9500 will itself get an additional performance boost, thanks to its dedicated Qdeo video processor and Blurr Brown digital-to-analog converters (DAC). You can expect the Qdeo chip and Blurr Brown DACs to enhanced DVD upscaling and music CD fidelity, respectively. Stay tuned for updates on Asia availability and pricing from the Dutch company.
