What's better than a touchscreen e-book reader? How about one with two touchscreens and a lower price to boot?
Asus was one of the pioneers which started the low-cost minilaptop trend with its Eee PC Netbooks. Now, the Taiwanese maker seems ready to apply the same strategy to the e-book market. Current models such as
Amazon's Kindle and Sony Reader are costly models, with the latter only recently receiving the touchscreen treatment. Asus plans to manufacture the dual-touchscreen Eee Reader in two configurations. The budget model aims to hit the £100 (US$164.34) price point (current e-book prices are in the region of US$300) and, together with the premium configuration, come in a clamshell form just like a real book.
Exact details are scarce at this time, though a prototype is on display at IFA Berlin 2009. We'll keep you posted as more information comes to light.

Sony and company are probably giving the boys at Asus really dirty looks right about now. Glad to hear of this development as I'm really looking forward to owning an e-book reader. I've just held off because I'm waiting for other models to come out so I can figure out which one gains more market support in terms of content. Though that seems to be Sony, at the moment.
