Having announced a a
shocking black Wii in the offing, it's hardly surprising that the game console giant is now whipping out matching black nunchuks, Wiimotes and
Wii MotionPlus controllers complete with penguin jackets. These have a year-end launch date, though the black Wiimote appears to be available on some enterprising online stores.
The singularly bad news: You still can't get the black Wii since this is slated only for Japanese shores, and there's been no change in that status. So the polite question is: What's the deal? The good news is we can expect the black Wii to trickle into Asia through parallel channels like
Amazon Japan and
PlayAsia. But you'll have to mod it in order to play non-Japanese game titles, a risky and illegal move. However, since there's no official warranty save for the store coverage, players who want their black probably won't give two hoots.
In the meantime, now that the floodgates have opened with Nintendo offering an alternative hue to its vanilla console, with eagle eyes spotting a blue Wiimote at the
World Hobby Fair, I'm betting my white Wii that a flood of rainbow hues will be released sooner than you can say "pink"!
