Last year, the mobile computing industry was all about Netbooks and Atom. This year, the tides seem to have shifted to the CULV space. BenQ is the latest to enter this niche with a couple of new JoyBooks.
Like the Acer Timeline series, the 13.3-inch JoyBook S35 and 14-inch JoyBook S43 are sleek thin-and-lights weighing 1.6kg and 2.1kg, respectively. Foregoing an integrated optical drive, these JoyBooks instead offer impressive battery life up to 11 hours for the S35 and 5 hours on the S43.
The machines can be equipped with CULV Core 2 Solo, ULV Core 2 Duo or Celeron processors, depending on the configurations available in each region. Both models sport high-resolution 1,366 x 768-pixel displays, though only the S43 comes with discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 graphics performance (the S35 uses an Intel integrated video card). More details will be available once these units begin shipping end August to Asia Pacific, China and Taiwan.
