The rumors are true after all. The much-speculated
EOS 7D has just been announced by Canon, but to the disappointment of many fans out there, this shooter is not a full-frame dSLR. Nonetheless, it still has impressive specifications. Here's a quick breakdown of its features.
18-megapixel, APS-C-sized CMOS sensor
Dual Digic 4 image processors
19-point cross-type autofocus system
8 frames-per-second (fps) burst mode
ISO 100 to 12,800
3-inch, 920k-dot display
Full-HD video recording at 24fps
100 percent viewfinder coverage
Integrated Speedlite Transmitter
Dual axis electronic level
So where does the EOS 7D fit into Canon's dSLR lineup? From the looks of it, this quick snapper appears more suited for photojournalists. Just as the EOS 1D Mark III is the speedier equivalent to the EOS 1Ds mark III, the EOS 7D probably complements the EOS 5D Mark II lineup in a similar fashion.
There is no word on Asia pricing, but the EOS 7D is expected to sell for US$1,700 in the US come end September.

The name seriously threw me off. I thought this would replace the 1Ds Mark III.
