When we reviewed the original
SmartQ 5 MID, the excitement of handling what was one of the cheapest MIDs in the market was hampered by a sucky operating system that ran videos like a slideshow. Even the firmware upgrade and the option to dual-boot into Windows CE didn't help matters much.
But news of an Android-flavored SmartQ 5 got us all tingling again.
GeekStuff4U has put up a product page selling the latest low-cost MID at 26,000 yen (US$281.58) decked out in Google's mobile operating system. Though no one has yet reviewed this version of the SmartQ 5, we have high hopes for this MID as the open-source Android may be easier to optimize for the hardware platform. We have no news of Asia availability at this time, but we expect these machines to start turning up in stores come October this year.
