Although Hitachi has been unusually quiet outside of Japan in the fiercely competitive HDTV market, the company is announcing a series of new models on its own home turf. These include 42-, 46- and a 50-inch full-HD plasmas outfitted with 500GB digital video recorders and DLNA network multimedia playback. What is interesting is that the P-XP035 series' built-in iVDR slot can be used to add an external hard drives, presumably to supplement the onboard storage for extended recording time.
For LCD fans, there're also the L-XP35 series which features similar capabilities, albeit in smaller 37- and 42-inch screen sizes. The P-X035 and L-XP35 are expected to be priced from US$3,000 to US$4,100 and US$2,550 to US$3,080, respectively. The plasmas will be launched in September followed by the LCDs in October. No news on whether these new entries will be released in other countries at the moment.

Once again, the creative CE industry is taking the lead to eliminate the Set Top Box and embed the functions within the TV. By adding a DVR - especially the iVDR (a product which has been long in development and short on commercialization) Hitachi is showing the power of combining their TV and storage technologies into one product.
DLNA certification means it will interact with other entertainment systems (mobile phones, digital picture frames, NAS drives, etc.).
Further developments as this will continue to give consumers more choice while reducing the clutter of the entertainment room.
Keep pushing forward
