Ever since
Canon announced the
PowerShot G11 and
S90 last week, there have been plenty of speculation about the new "high sensitivity CCD sensor" that's used in the two shooters mentioned in the press release.
Camera blog
1001noisycameras reports that
Image Sensors World has an official announcement for the Sony ICX685CQZ sensor. The sensor's specifications are as follow: 1/1.7 inches in size, 10 megapixels and video output limited to VGA at 30 frames per second. These figures fall in line with the G11 and S90's literature as well, which further fuels the conjecture.
We contacted Canon Singapore for verification but the company was not able to confirm with us whether the two new PowerShots are using the Sony ICX685CQZ sensor. We should hear from Canon soon, so check back for more updates.
