Following the many rumors of Dell entering the smartphone market, the company has finally unveiled its first handset in China. Dubbed the Mini 3i, this device runs on operator China Mobile's Open Mobile System (OMS), which is essentially a variant of Android meant for the China market. Details are sketchy at the moment but blog site 163.com has pictures and some specifications. The Mini 3i will apparently come with a 3.5-inch 360 x 640-pixel capacitive touchscreen, 3.2-megapixel camera, and has only a 2G radio so it won't support high-speed data transfers over the cellular network.
When contacted by CNET Asia, Dell had little to say about the new device. A company spokesperson revealed that today's event for journalists in China was conducted to announce that it will be entering the market along with China Mobile. No release date was given, and no further information regarding its plans for other markets was mentioned. But Dell entering the smartphone market is big news in itself, so let's just wait and see what it has in store for the rest of the world.
