We previously craved about the Linksys by
Cisco PLTK300 Powerline kit that comes with an integrated four-port Ethernet switch. Too bad this throttled at a slow 85Mbps data transfer rate. Now, a new contender from Netgear promises to break this speed barrier. The company's upcoming
XAVB1004 Home Theater Internet Connection Kit will offer up to 200Mbps for streaming HD video smoothly. It's also one of the first-of-its-class to feature a higher-performing Intellon 6400 chipset, according to Netgear. Other notable capabilities include a Push-N-Secure function for secured device pairing.
The US$179.99 XAVB1004 package ships with an XAV101 Powerline A/V Ethernet adapter and an XAV1004 Powerline switch. It is retailing in the US for now, but will reach Asia in late Q4.
