Looks like the Japanese manufacturers are going gaga over 2TB digital video recorders (DVR) this month. The latest entry came from Toshiba in the form of the RD-X9 which boasts an extended 1,322 hours, courtesy of its sizeable internal storage. The recording time can be further doubled if users hook up an external 2TB hard drive via its onboard USB port. Other notable features include a whopping array of seven TV tuners and proprietary XDE technology to deliver HD-like picture quality from DVDs.
Having said that, the Toshiba RD-X9 lacks Blu-ray recording and playback capabilities found in the
Panasonic DMR-BW970, though this may change soon according to a
report from Yomiuri online. Both DVRs will be launched in Japan from September.
