Kodak unveils EasyShare Z950 and M381

Kodak is the Columbo of the camera world these days: Keeping itself to itself, apparently not doing much, then just when you think you're in the clear, it solves the case. Or, in this case, unleashing the EasyShare Z950 and M381.

Both 12-megapixel snappers, these new snappers couldn't be further from the rumpled, shabby Columbo. Kodak's styling is razor-sharp when it wants to be, and with its 10x zoom the Z950 is, to our eyes, way sleeker than many of the chunky compact superzooms it competes with.

With the launch last week of the Fujifilm FinePix F70EXR, we suggested the compact superzoom sector, dominated by the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ6 and TZ7, needed a name. So we're going to call them suprazooms. Catchy, no?

Features on the Z950 suprazoom include smart-capture function which automatically adjusts focus, flash and exposure. Plus, there is face detection and optical image stabilization. It records high-definition video and stores stills and video on SD or SDHC card.
