Yesterday, we reported on
fabric-like cameras which MIT researchers have developed. However, that invention has yet to be commercialized, so the closest we think you can get to taking pictures with your clothes is this Spy Button camera.
Japanese gadget maker Thanko has came up with a non-obtrusive shooter which looks like a button. Just slip it between the slits of your shirt's buttons and you're good to go. For added measures, Thanko is including a magnetic ring which can activate the Spy Button camera when placed near to the shooter so you can start videotaping or snapping shots even more discreetly. However, Thanko's site made no mention whether the same ring can be used to stop movie recording or switch the camera off.
The Spy Button camera is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and the gizmo has 4GB of internal memory. Images are recorded at 1,280 x 1,024 pixels, while video clips are 640 x 480 in resolution. There is a mini-USB port which allows you to transfer files to a computer or charge the snapper's battery, which is good for about 3 hours of video filming.
Thanko's
Web site is retailing this gadget for US$61.87 inclusive of five fake black buttons in different sizes, USB cable and, of course, the magnetic ring which comes only in 19mm diameter.
