SingTel announces price plans for iPhone 3GS

The iPhone 3GS will be available from July 10 in Singapore.

In addition to the iFlexi Value/Plus/Premium plans that were introduced with the iPhone 3G last year, SingTel has added an additional iFlexi Lite this time round. This is the cheapest of the four plans and will be available for both the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Bundled data for local usage is applicable only for users who sign up for a two-year iFlexi plan. What's worth noting is that the 8GB iPhone 3G will now cost S$138 on the iFlexi Value compared with S$348 last year.

Existing iPhone 3G users who have fulfilled at least six months of their two-year contact are eligible for an early upgrade offer which requires them to top up S$600. They can, however, trade in their 8GB iPhone 3G and 16GB iPhone 3G at S$300 and S$400, respectively.

The iPhone 3GS will be available at the SingTel Comcentre between July 10 and July 12, and thereafter at SingTel retail shops, exclusive retailers and Apple premium resellers.

Is it me, or has CNET Asia changed and updated their post on the iphone 3GS, cause i believe that at around 5:00pm today, the content of this post has differed somewhat. It previously mentioned that current iphone3G users were able to upgrade without having to incur the additional $600 cost.

Hi ackabr, the last two paragraphs were added in an update to the original post which explains the update gif in the headline. The additional information was received only after we've posted the story. Hope that clarifies.

iFlexi Lite.......SingTel can throw in at least 1GB of bundled data. How much does it cost them?

But, iFlexi Lite will allow them to target those who only use 100mins or less of outgoing calls a month. So, it's a good move.

I am extremely disappointed with Singtel. I purchased the iPhone 3G during the launch day itself which was 22nd Aug 2008. I am eligible to upgrade in just a month time and yet they choose to levy this $600 charge on me as well. I believe they screwed this up quite badly. Most loyal fans of the iPhone wouldn't fork out the extra $600 when they can just wait for another month and pay that much lesser.

Another point is, if Singtel have secured the iPhone 3G a little bit earlier last year instead of being one of the last few countries to get it, we wouldn't be paying this $600 early upgrade charge as well. Take a cue from AT&T. Do not take advantage of your loyal customers. Waive the $600 early upgrade charge. I will gladly queue 8 hours for the latest iPhone again.

AT&T isn't its cracked up to be. On the 18th of last month they released a statement saying that instead of charging their clients the Early Upgrade Price for the iPhone ($200 more than advertised prices) anyone who is upgrade eligible from July through September automatically gets the full subsidy. I was one of those "lucky few" but as it turns out AT&T conveniently lost my upgrade eligibility date as of the day I pre-ordered my phone.

I tried talking to them about it but all I've gotten is flak. I can't wait for the iPhone to be available in the US unlocked so that I wouldn't have to deal with AT&T's poor customer service. Not that I have much of a choice, but at least I can threaten to cancel and have it mean something instead of it just being an empty threat next time around. Plus, I won't need to keep re-upping my contract. Just keep the one I recently signed up for and buy the phones myself.

Fulfill only 6 months of your contract and you become eligible for an upgrade? Nice, if only AT&T caught on to that kind of loyalty-building program for its clients.

I find it strange seeing a data cap on an iPhone data plan but I suppose it is more than enough. My monthly AT&T statements say I only used about 250-300MB worth of data a month from email and all the browsing I do. I guess the cap doesn't really matter unless the phone was used for tethering.

I agree with Juniarto on this. Singtel absolutely has no sense on building customer loyalty. We the loyal iphone fans are now made to suffer this ridiculous $600 fee! Shouldn't they be able to absorb this fee and allow us to purchase the 3GS at a loyalty discount? Absolutely RUBBISH.

I guess this is how Singtel treats its loyal customers. I don’t understand why we are considered breaking a contract when what we only want is to upgrade to an improved handset. I have always been with Singtel since the pager era and now I really feel betrayed. Is Singtel really a cheapskate? Is the monthly subscription really not enough when I hardly use 100MB of data per month? From what I know, even a dog doesn’t bite the hands that feed it.
