iPhone-compatible
speaker docks are not exactly common here in Asia, while the
iPod-toting hippies will have no problem finding one that will fit. Some people have taken the risk of using an iPod-only dock for their iPhones, but we wouldn't really recommend doing that.
Philips joins the iPhone-compatible speaker dock segment with three models; A bedside alarm clock DC315; a micro Hi-Fi DCM250; and a handsfree speakerphone DC350.
The simplest dock of the three, the DC315 features a digital clock, dual alarm time settings, and a sleep timer. It also includes a FM tuner with 20 preset stations.
The DCM250's a micro Hi-Fi system that has an integrated iPhone dock, which unlike the other two docks, features a USB port which enables users to plug in other MP3 players as well as USB memory drives for music playback. The DCM250 also features a remote control, FM radio and CD playback.
Adding Bluetooth connectivity to the iPhone, the third offering, the DC350 also features the calendar and contact data sync capability when hooked up to a PC via USB. It enables handsfree calls when paired with Bluetooth headsets and it can playback music wirelessly via Bluetooth-enabled MP3 players.
All three docks feature an MP3-Link connector which is a simple 3.5mm input jack for connecting to other audio sources such as
laptops and CD players. These speaker docks are now out on shelves at S$129 (US$93.07) for the DC315, S$249 (US$179.64) for the DCM250 and S$219 (US$157.00) for the DC350.
