The
Gateway LT3104g/LT3105g is the second 11.6-inch minilaptop to hit the streets after its parent company, Acer, started retailing the
Aspire One 751 with a display of the same size. But this is not your everyday Netbook. Instead of the Intel Atom platform with the anemic GMA 950 integrated graphics chipset, this Gateway runs off a 1.2GHz AMD Athlon 64 processor with a discrete 384MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1270 (1GB HyperMemory).
What makes it even more interesting is that for a machine with such impressive graphics performance, it is retailing in Singapore at a special introductory price of S$888 (US$639.54) (RRP S$1,299 (US$935.54)). It is an attractive price even when compared with the Atom-based Aspire One 751.
Available in red or black, the LT3104g/LT3105g actually looks pretty good with a claimed battery life of 5 hours. We also like the 1,366 x 768-pixel LED-backlit panel, a high resolution especially for a screen this size. That said, all is not perfect as this Gateway weighs a hefty 1.44kg with a six-cell battery. However, at this price point, we are more than willing to put up with a little shoulder discomfort for a powerful minilaptop.
