With the
Palm Pre successfully launched and sales well under way, several developers on Monday unveiled new apps for the smartphone.
The applications include Zumobi's Today Show and Sporting News Baseball apps for on-the-go news and sports updates, and LikeMe, which offers personal recommendations for restaurants, attractions, and so forth, based on your location. In addition, Beeweeb and Agile Commerce announced their plans to offer services to help developers create apps for the Pre and Palm WebOS. You can see a whole list on
Palm's blog site.
These new apps join the dozen or so programs that were available in the Pre App Catalog at launch, including Pandora and Fandango. According to Palm, more than 150,000 apps were downloaded on the first day the smartphone was available.
Currently, the Palm App Catalog is in beta and the
Mojo SDK is only available to a limited number of developers and hasn't been released to the public just yet. However, interested parties can apply for admission to the program now through the
Palm's developer site.

The Palm Pre is really a good new smart phone from Palm. Of course, it has been dubbed as the "iPhone killer". Apple just announced the 16G and 32G iPhone GS. With the large number of software available for iPhone, the real challenge for Palm is whether this new phone is able to beat the eco-system surrounding the iPhone cult. I think Palm Pre is a little too few coming in a little too late.
