Sony just announced
three dSLRs last week and the trio
was leaked on the Web way before launch. Now, it appears that the Japanese company is still having some difficulties keeping a tight lid on its upcoming products.
On
Sony Canada's Web site for registering products, we realized the dropdown field has two Alpha models which are not on the market. The DSLR-A500 and DSLR-A550 are in between the
A380 and
A700, which gives the impression that they may be midrange models targeted at serious enthusiasts.
We contacted Sony Singapore which commented that this may be a mistake that the Canada's office has made (but not before telling CNET Asia that it cannot comment on undisclosed products).
Elsewhere online, the blogosphere is
abuzz with speculation on the A500 and A550's specifications. Some bloggers commented that the A500 will come with full-HD video recording to go head-on with Canon and Nikon, while others predict the sensor resolution will be 17.2 megapixels.
Looking at the timeline of Alpha cameras, the A700 is way overdue for an update and the A500 or A550 may be the successors. That said, nothing's firm until Sony makes an official announcement.
