Just as Netbooks are catching up with traditional ultraportables when it comes to features and performance, the latest Nettop from Acer poses a serious threat to mainstream desktops. The Acer Revo may be only a fraction of the size of a standard mid-tower chassis and use much less power, but its 1.6GHz 230 Atom processor and Nvidia Ion chipset are powerful enough to render 1080p full-HD videos without a flutter.
Measuring only 180 x 180 x 30.5mm, the Revo comes with 7.1-channel audio output as well. Other features include a memory card reader, HDMI and VGA ports, Gigabit Ethernet and six USB 2.0 slots. According to an Nvidia press release, this Nettop can also handle old game titles such as
Call of Duty 4,
Spore and
Sim City 5.
Pricing and availability dates are not available, though we won't be surprised to see this Nettop in Asia stores before the second quarter of 2009 is out.
