Keep your veggies fresh for days

You know what's the problem with fresh fruits and vegetables? They may be good for our health but tend to be painful on the wallet. Buying in bulk is no solution as they spoil easily within a couple of days.

Case in point. One of our writers went on leave and left his banana lying on the desk for over a week. When he returned, the yellow fruit had turned into a gross brown soup trapped inside the skin. According to the Web site, this bag works by absorbing the ethylene gas released by fruits and vegetables, which is the cause of rapid ripening. The company claims the material used, oya, is found in Japan caves which the locals use to keep their fresh produce.

Does it really work? T-Nation, a bodybuilding Web site, recently did a test using its own bananas. Though this would hardly pass for a rigorous scientific experiment, the end result vindicates the company's claims.
