Online application stores are the rage these days.
Following Apple's App Store and Google's Android Market, Samsung has deemed it necessary to go live with its
mobile app Web site in the UK ahead of its official announcement at the Mobile World Congress next week.
Users can look forward to an
initial selection of 1,100 apps, including freeware written for the S60 and Windows Mobile operating systems.
The good news for developers is that registration as a Samsung Mobile Innovator is free, along with marketing or hosting programs on the Web site. The store will initially be for the UK market and only UK credit card holders are allowed to purchase paid applications.
Other details are scant at the moment, such as the availability of paid apps in Asia, but we are sure we'll hear more concrete information next week.
Update: According to Samsung, the app store will be available in Asia next year.
