Fujitsu opens world's first Premium Care Center in Singapore

Ever wonder what happens to your notebook when it's sent to the service center? I don't know about you, but the area behind the front desk is one big black hole where it can take over a day to reformat your harddisk (which can usually be done in a couple of hours) or weeks to replace a faulty USB port. Moreover, we don't really know if the service technicians will exhibit the same care to the exterior facade while fixing the internal hardware.

Come February 19, Fujitsu will be opening its first Premium Care Center in Singapore's Funan DigitaLife Mall. The new service outlet is not only 70 percent larger than its previous center in the same mall, it also features an "Open Repair Centre" which allows owners to witness the handling and repair of their laptops behind a glass window. Of course, for more extensive repairs, we do not advise you stay there and wait as it may still take a couple of days. But if you see them take good care of another person's laptop, your machine will likely receive the same care.

For those with old Fujitsu laptops to be disposed, the new center has an iCare Notebook Disposal Service. Depending on whether the unit is functional or not, the Japanese company will either recycle it or properly dispose it to prevent toxic elements from poisoning the earth. In return, the consumer will receive a token in the form of cash or product voucher for participating in Fujitsu's Green Programme.

The operating hours have also been tweaked to make it more customer-friendly. The center is open till 8pm on Wednesdays, from the usual 10am to 7pm operating hours. On weekdays, students with valid education passes will be given priority from 10am to 12pm and will be served first.

The Premium Care Center is the first of its kind in the world for Fujitsu and the pioneering outlet will open in Singapore on February 19. The Japanese company is still exploring the idea of expanding its premium care service to other Asian markets but can't confirm any details at this time.

darius, does this premium service tag along the reported premium package/service that loyal fujitsu customer/s could enjoy? by replacing your old fujitsu laptop & get a discounted new set? seems like this is the one. then it could be very enticing for current fujitsu customer & converts alike to stay with fujitsu for a very long time.

I hope it's nothing like the service Fujitsu provides in the U.S.

First, they refuse to send out any parts. Even something as simple as a power supply, which is "tool-less" and can be replaced by anyone in minutes, they won't send out at any price. You HAVE to send the whole computer in.

Second, it seems that repairs tend to take "weeks" rather than days, much less hours. I sent a computer to them a week ago, overnight delivery. They received it the next day and sent a confirmation e-mail. Since then, nothing. I called four times in the last two days and no one can even tell me the status. They all promise to call back but I have yet to receive a call.

This level of service is completely unacceptable for business users that can't afford to be without a computer for weeks at a time. Especially for simple replacement parts that could be installed by the user in minutes. Troubleshooting sporadic problems, which requires swapping spare parts in and out over days or weeks, is simply not possible.

When a Fujitsu computer breaks, just throw the whole thing in the trash and replace it with another brand.
