Toshiba has unveiled its latest handheld in Europe, the TG01. This device is based on Windows Mobile 6.1 and, from the pictures, it looks quite attractive with a reported depth of just 9.9mm. Other specifications include a massive 4.1-inch 800 x 480-pixel screen, HSDPA, GPS and Toshiba's customized user interface that hides the default Windows Mobile Home screen.
The biggest talking point though is really its use of the Qualcomm 1GHz "Snapdragon" chipset. Smartphones typically have processors that are about half that clock speed, and one of the fastest we have encountered so far, the ASUS P565, has an 800MHz chip. The performance from a 1GHz handheld should be interesting and we wonder if that will have any adverse effect on the unit's battery life.
Reports indicate that Toshiba will be releasing the TG01 around the middle of this year in Europe. The company told CNET Asia that it currently has "no detailed information on the phone's Asia launch", so don't get your hopes up too high at the moment. It should be making an appearance later this month in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress 2009, so watch out for more information then.

That actually doesn't look half bad! Design-wise I'd say it's on par with the HTC Touch HD and that other phone HTC makes for the Russian market. Though I really wish they made another version for Android.
