MWC 2009

Garmin, famed maker of GPS navigation devices, announced its first mobile phone, the nuvifone, quite some time back. It hasn't hit the market, but when it does in the future, you will be seeing ASUS' name on it. In a press release, the two companies have announced an alliance "to design, manufacture and distribute co-branded location-centric mobile phones".

The original nuvifone will now be released as the G60 and, according to Garmin, a new nuvifone will also be announced at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2009 held in Barcelona. ASUS has a pretty comprehensive portfolio of Windows Mobile phones and is a member of the OHA (Open Handset Alliance, companies which back the Google Android platform). Garmin is also part of OHA and has a strong history of making good GPS navigation units. This should be an interesting partnership. Let's see if they manage to wow us at the upcoming MWC.
