Supercharged Toshiba Regza coming your way!

The Toshiba 4K prototype on display at CES packs supercomputer-like processing power under its shell. Unlike most HDTVs, it's fitted with the renowned Cell chip of PlayStation 3 fame, which gives the 56-incher lots of number-crunching headroom. For example, it features Toshiba's proprietary Resolution+ technology that upconverts 1080p signals to a tantalizing 3,840 x 2,160-pixel native resolution.
Also showcased was another 55-inch Cell TV featuring the latest LED backlighting. According to Toshiba, this model offers high-speed picture parameter controls which include an innovative (hmm?) local dimming function. Picture quality-aside, these panels should also deliver extremely fast and user-friendly network capabilities. The company did not indicate a possible launch date for its Cell TVs in its CES press release.
