Hitachi could be expanding the UT-series by encompassing plasma TVs in its future lineup. At CES, the company is showing off a 50-inch plasma prototype with a slim 35mm side profile. In addition, there's also a 37-inch LCD prototype which measures only 15mm thick and consumes half the power of the previous model. Enabling these enhancements is the LCD panel's new LED backlighting system.
For its 2009 entries, Hitachi will be launching LCD TVs from 32 to 52 inches equipped with up to 120Hz motion-enhancement engines. These will supposedly ship in high-quality finish using exotic materials such as Japanese lacquer and genuine gold leaf. For the finishing touch, Hitachi will be offering special and easy-to-assemble TV stands fabricated from a combination of aluminum parts and wood board.
