Sony Netbook is (almost) official

Darius Chang  |  Dec 26, 2008

The leaked specs from Sony's Website. The screenshot shows the current TT model and is probably just a placeholder image.

CES
It's a little late in the game, but Sony may finally be entering the Netbook fray with a new VAIO P mini-notebook.

Leaked by Sony's own US Web site, the 8-inch Netbook's most interesting feature is its high-resolution screen. While other similar models are happy with a mere 1,024 x 600-pixel resolution, the VAIO P's display is a whopping 1,600 x 768 in density, though we wonder if this would make the screen too hard to read though HD movies should look great on it. However, with a 1.33GHz Intel processor (suspected to be an Atom chip) and Windows Vista operating system, performance might be a little poky for some. Storage comes in traditional mechanical and solid-state variants, depending on how deep your pockets are.

Available in red, black and gold, pricing and availability details are not provided though we'll probably know more when CES 2009 comes around. In the meantime, start saving up your pocket money because, like the rest of its siblings, we doubt this VAIO will be friendly to your wallet.

well the brand of sony is gd but the proc compare to intel 1.33 compare to 1.6 ? :D and 8" . HP mini 1000 look like a winner in mini note game .how the pricing will be? just can't wait to see :D

it just say 'Intel processor' but not which line. if its not the 1.6 Atom, what its going to be? Sony isn't going to be cheap but the quality is definitely going to be there. i don't HP mini 1000 is the winner - looks like Lenovo, MSI and Asus are the ones most people will be getting - simply for the low-cost factor.

After seeing the specs and knowing Sony's penchant for premium prices, I have to say, "why bother?" If the price point is something like or more than the HP Mini's, why not spend a little more and get a MacBook?

If you're interested in buying a netbook, the Lenovo S10 is probably the best choice for you...
