Ever wondered how big a photo can be printed from images captured by a camera-phone? Well, Samsung has the answer with its INNOV8, the company's upcoming mobile phone equipped with an 8-megapixel camera. During its regional launch held in Vietnam, the chaebol invited a famous local photographer to testify to the imaging aspects of the handset.
Hoang Trung Thuy is now part of the Guinness Vietnam Record Book, having used the INNOV8 to capture and print the "biggest photo captured by a mobile phone". The 86 x 115 cm photo was unveiled at the event and we have to say it was one of the highest-quality printouts we've seen so far from a camera-phone.
We scrutinized the picture and found it to be satisfactory. Sure, there were hints of noise and color graduation wasn't fantastic, but it was on par with most conventional digital point-and-shoot cameras. Thuy even commented that the image quality from the INNOV8 was comparable to that from a semi-professional shooter.
Want to know what can really sweeten the deal? Adding an optical or sensor-shift image stabilizer will most certainly make camera-phones a real threat to single-function digital cameras. Throw in optical zoom and we are sold. Samsung, are you listening?
