The Intel Atom processor is to be announced today at Computex, and much as it has tried to keep Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) manufacturers tightlipped before that, ASUS broke the silence first with its
Eee PC 901/1000. Acer has since followed suit and unveiled its first budget UMPC, the rumored Acer Aspire One.
The 8.9-inch screen will have a resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels. Memory comes in the form of either an 8GB solid-state or 80GB conventional harddisk configuration, with 512MB or 1GB of RAM. Of course, at the core of it will be the Intel Atom processor and the machine will operate on Linux or Windows XP platform.
The Linux version will hit the market first, with its price ranging from US$399-$499. Availability in other regions has yet to be confirmed.
