Device charging for neat freaks

John Chan  |  Apr 02, 2008

BlueLounge is a company that makes cable management cool, as seen by its SpaceStation desktop organizer we featured about a month back. Now it has announced the Sanctuary, a dish that holds your personal artifacts with cables that stick out of its base to charge a range of mobile devices.

Under its inner tray is a large AC adapter with many compatible connectors for device brands like Apple, Nokia and Samsung. It also has a built-in USB port so you can plug in a USB charger for any connector the Sanctuary happens not to have. You pick the connectors you need, run them through the cut-outs on the tray, and presto! No more messy tangles when charging your many devices.

Such elegance comes at a princely price of US$129.95. The company ships internationally so we in Asia should be able to purchase one without worries. For those who can't justify spending that amount on cable management, we are happy to direct your attention to this modified IKEA box that performs the same function and costs just 11.24 euros to make--workmanship not provided.

Hands-on pictures with Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

Damian Koh  |  Apr 02, 2008

We pulled some strings, cajoled some folks and, as a result, we are able to present to you some early close-up shots of the XPERIA X1. We can imagine the geek envy directed at us, but not to worry, your turn will come a few months down the road.

XPERIA X1 to come with Windows Mobile 6.1

Reuben Lee  |  Apr 02, 2008

It's official. The much-anticipated Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 PDA-phone will be running Windows Mobile 6.1. The new operating system is the latest update to Windows Mobile 6, which was announced slightly over a year ago. It features several enhancements including easier setup for users, an improved Internet Explorer and Home screen, as well as threaded SMS.

The XPERIA X1 was first unveiled at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and has since become one of the most anticipated handset models for 2008. Response to the X1 has so far been quite positive, particularly on its unique yet stylish slide-out keyboard design and plethora of onboard features. This includes a large 3-inch widescreen touch display, HSDPA/HSUPA, Wi-Fi and GPS. It is Sony Ericsson's first Windows Mobile PDA-phone and is expected to be launched in the second-half of 2008.

Where the Wii meets Laverne & Shirley

Mike Yamamoto  |  Apr 02, 2008
Wii Tennis may have found a patron saint in Ralph Lauren, but the game that's really gotten everyone's attention is one of blue collars, not blue blood: Bowling. So while the former prance about in their designer fashion wear, virtual bowlers are finally getting some appropriate accessories of their own--starting with the Wii Bowling Bag.

This is no cheap knockoff either, but one that's made by the ultimate name in bowling gear, Brunswick. The retro-styled bag has padded compartments that can safely tote around the console, cords, games, and Wiimote, according to Uncrate. All it needs to achieve perfection is a way to combine it with the "Wii Party Station".

Turn that cavity into a microphone

Mike Yamamoto  |  Apr 02, 2008
Talk about a bad case of cell phone addiction. Chinavasion describes this as the ultimate hands-free device, and for good reason: It's a tiny microphone designed to be embedded in the teeth.

If we weren't told otherwise, we'd swear this was an April Fool's prank. But the Bluetooth Dentacom is apparently for real, a "composite resin filling" that will "pick up sound and vibrations from your mouth to produce incredibly clear sound", according to GeekAlerts.

But take note of the distributor's advice: "All dental work should be performed by a qualified dentist. Chinavasion does not take responsibility for injury resulting from the installation of this product." We'll stick with the speakerphone for now.
