Vista SP1 released

Darius Chang  |  Mar 19, 2008

Despite being launched over a year ago, some liken using Windows Vista to driving a car without a steering wheel. Sure, it can move forwards and back, but woe to those whose destination is not in a straight line.

Well, those days may soon be over, as the long-awaited Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) is now available for download through Windows Update application. Besides a modest performance boost in some areas, more importantly several bugs and issues have been addressed and resolved. According to forumers, laptop battery life on Vista SP1 has also been significantly improved, though other users reported a drop in performance (likely due to the fact that SuperFetch was wiped clean after installing SP1).

But let's face it, with the wide variety of hardware running Windows it is expected that individual experiences will differ. If you are not happy with SP1, or experience system degradation after installation, raise your hand in the talkback.

I hope it won't crash my TrendMicro Internet Security. They should have fixed their SP1 bug by now. . . fingers crossed.

installed SP1, at boot up I got blue screen of death. Could not read the screen because it immediately restarted. Managed to revert "back" to a working VISTA (if you can call VISTA working, I call it crawling). Getting VISTA was not only a waste of my money, but has been an even bigger waste of my time. Again, my PC seems to exist just to run the OS. I now fear the day that VISTA will not be supported unless I have SP1.

I do not understand why people has been so negative against Vista. I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit for almost a year now and did not have any major problems with it. I have just completed installing SP1. It does take a long time to install but it went smoothly. No BSOD, no hanging. I installed a lot of different graphic, video, utilities software on my Vista along with a few drivers for my Webcam, bluetooth keyboard and mouse, printers, scanners, wireless speakers and so far, no major issues for me. Everything works fine even after SP1 install. The major thing I noticed after SP1 is that copying files is a lot faster than before but nothing new that I noticed other than that. I guess most of the update is behind the hood.
