Seems like 1080p latecomer InFocus is on a roll with yet another Play Big projector. Just months after releasing its pilot full-HD beamers, the IN81 and IN82, the American company is back showing off a new stepped-up model. Above all, the upcoming £3,500 (US$6,900) IN83 sports the latest Texas Instrument DarkChip 4 DLP engine. This delivers an instant 25 percent boost in native contrast from 4,000 to 5,000:1. As far as we can tell, this is the most significant upgrade on paper, while everything stay pretty much the same. Could this be an IN82 with a heart transplant? Go figure.
Yes, the iPhone has just gotten a memory boost to 16GB and, according to the Apple press site, it is immediately available for US$499. The new 16GB model will come with the latest software that was announced at Macworld last month, bringing the Maps application, ability to create Web clips, a customizable (hooray) home screen and iTunes movie rentals to the handset.
"For some users, there's never enough memory," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of Worldwide iPod and iPhone Product Marketing, in a press release statement.
And for some users, they still don't have iPhones. Greg, are you reading this?
Right next to the Blow-up Mouse, this one gets our vote for going where no printer has gone before--right over the edge, literally. Once again, it's the Koreans thinking out of the box, with designers Jin Hee Kim, Hyung Il Kim & Woo Seok Park conceptualizing the, erm, Hanging Printer. While the name isn't terribly original, the idea of hiding the bulk of the inkbox under the desk is, with only the paper feed and printhead visible on the table. Which makes this one less clutter on our already overcrowded desktop. Now all it needs is to get into production.
As fond as we are of massaging chairs, beds, or anything else that's shiatsu-enabled, the "Nemorelaxer" seems to take the concept a bit too far.
It's not that we have anything against its restorative properties, mind you; it's the venue that has us a little weirded out. These modules--equipped with recliner chairs, sound insulation, folding desks, and touchscreen monitors--are planned for airports, according to Luxist.
Although they're designed for suites with staffs that will watch your luggage and wake you up,
we'd be too nervous to fall asleep in the 30-minute rental slots now envisioned. These things look like a cross between The Matrix and Invasion of the Body Snatchers, with some elements of an MRI chamber.
Even if we were able to fall asleep, chances are the attendants wouldn't be able to break our slumber. And with our luck, they'd probably pull out a Clocky.
Looking for a fast printer? If you happen to have 33ft of wallspace and a spare US$280,000 lying around, this may be the perfect one for you.
The Canon ImagePress C6000 can print up to 70 pages a minute at 1,200-dpi resolution, according to OhGizmo, with a
capacity for 10,000 sheets of paper. To achieve that insane rate, this monster
needs a built-in computer of its own with a 10.4-inch LCD, 800MHz processor,
1.5GB of memory, and 80GB hard drive.
Still, we remain unimpressed. For that kind of money, it should make a decent latte.
