Concept Android phone with OLED buttons

John Chan  |  Jul 09, 2009

Here's a concept phone based on the Google Android OS. Designed by Tryi Yeh from Taiwan, the Google-G0 is a touchscreen phone with a slider. There doesn't appear to be a keyboard under it, but sliding it does reveal a camera at the back and large buttons in front. These buttons appear to be little OLED screens which change symbols according to what you are doing on the phone at any point in time, not unlike the expensive Optimus Maximus keyboard from Art Lebedev. There is even a docking station with a huge screen for use at home.

It's a beautiful concept and has features that are not likely to appear in a real mobile phone for years to come. But we sure hope a manufacturer will pick up some ideas from this.

103-inch Bang & Olufsen TV lands in Singapore

Warning! The Bang & Olufsen (B&O) BeoVision 4-103 is a plasma TV not for the faint-hearted. For one, it has a humongous 103-inch panel, which is probably one of the largest in the market today. (The only competitor we can think of is Panasonic's 103-inch plasma TV.)

For a display this size, B&O recommends a minimum viewing distance of 4.5m for the best visual experience. In a nutshell, you'll need to have a pretty big living room to accommodate a TV like this. As a matter of interest, the TV weighs 250kg, the motorized stand another 250kg, which add up to daunting 500kg for the entire system?

The shocker, however, is really its price. According to the Danish firm, the BeoVision 4-103 will retail for S$230,000 (US$153,918.22) in Singapore. That's a six-figure sum that can easily net you a decent small apartment in many parts of Asia. In Singapore where cars are overpriced, that's the sticker price for a BMZ Z4 Roadster.

Button camera makes spying easier

Leonard Goh  |  Jul 09, 2009

Yesterday, we reported on fabric-like cameras which MIT researchers have developed. However, that invention has yet to be commercialized, so the closest we think you can get to taking pictures with your clothes is this Spy Button camera.

Japanese gadget maker Thanko has came up with a non-obtrusive shooter which looks like a button. Just slip it between the slits of your shirt's buttons and you're good to go. For added measures, Thanko is including a magnetic ring which can activate the Spy Button camera when placed near to the shooter so you can start videotaping or snapping shots even more discreetly. However, Thanko's site made no mention whether the same ring can be used to stop movie recording or switch the camera off.

Acer Timeline 1810T makes Netbooks obselete?

The beauty of breaking out of the Windows XP mold is saying good-bye to Microsoft's set limitations on Netbook power. Setting the stage for the fall's next-gen battle of the future Netbooks, Acer's as-yet-unofficial (according to Acer) Timeline 1810T has all the trimmings that place it head and shoulders above the currently Atom N270 and N280-dominated crowd. Leaked photos have hit online, and it looks like a fusion between Acer's Aspire One line and its super-slim, recently reviewed Timeline 3810T.

Sonos CR200 remote control leaks out on company's own Web site

The folks at Sonos told us they had some new stuff coming out soon, but we weren't expecting to get any details on it until they brief us in a few weeks. However, word of a new remote started to trickle out recently, and on Tuesday Sonos itself leaked info on the new CR200 controller on its own Web site (the page has now been taken down).

Unlike its predecessor (the CR100), the new controller has a touch screen, and the 3.5-inch VGA LCD is capacitive, which means it's more responsive. The other thing to note is that it's smaller, measuring 2.9 x 4.5 x 0.7 inches and it weighs only 6 ounces.

If you buy it alone it'll cost you US$350, but you save US$60 when you buy it as part of the upcoming Bundle 250. According to Automated Home, that new bundle features the same Zone Players you get with the Bundle 150, but with a slight color change to match the new controller.
