We've recently been alerted to a new Web site named
HTCClassAction.org through a user and our Taiwan-based blogger
Jonathan Gardner. According to the creator of the site, the
TyTN II and other HTC devices which use the new Qualcomm processors are not performing up to scratch, with some older devices running faster than them during some specific operations.
The main complaint has to do with video performance. In a
YouTube video, an HTC Magician (
Dopod 818 Pro) is put beside a TyTN II and they are both made to run the Tom Tom navigation software. In it, you see the navigation demo running smoothly in the Magician and jerkily in the TyTN II. This is an issue because the Magician is a much older device with a 195MHz processor (
update: a reader has pointed out in the comments that the creator of the video used a Magician which has a 416MHz processor), while the TyTN II is HTC's latest and should rightly perform much better.
In the explanation page, HTCClassAction attributes the problem to drivers that have to do with displaying graphics. The author of the site says the issue is not Qualcomm's because some other brands' devices that use the same chips do not exhibit this poor performance. Though the site has a legally threatening name, the author doesn't seem to want to take a legal route, but instead wants HTC to confess to there being such a problem.
We are withholding judgment till we get a chance to test out the claims. We've contacted both parties, HTCClassAction.org and HTC, for comments and are awaiting their responses. We'll certainly be following up on this, so look out for that.

The OP of the video (XDA Floatingfatmen) reported that hisDopod 818pro is a 416mhz CPU, though that does not mean anything from a test perspective. i also can confirm that the video clip on my 1Gig micro SD card plays perfect on a Samsung I718, Motorola v8, Tytn I, Samsung D900 and NOT on my tytn. So far further proof and i will be happy to show HTC this myself in their head Quarter soon.
