GSM Palm Centro spotted at CES

John Chan  |  Jan 10, 2008

The Palm OS-touting, entry-level PDA-phone Centro doesn't interest us much because, so far, Palm has only released a US operator-specific CDMA version which won't work here. We've heard rumors of a GSM version, but this sighting has got to be the most concrete so far.

The crew at treo|central was scouring the CES showfloor for new accessories, and a Centro caught their eye. What drew them to it was its shade of white because this model has not been released in that color. Upon closer inspection, they found a SIM card slot behind the battery cover--a sign that it's a GSM device.

While we are not surprised that there is a GSM version in the pipeline, it still remains to be seen if Palm will launch it commercially. We have contacted the company about its availability and are awaiting an answer.
