Aerielle intros i2i Stream

Donald Bell  |  Dec 21, 2007

Aerielle Inc., the company responsible for engineering FM transmitters for Kensington, iRiver, and SanDisk, is launching its own wireless music-sharing device called the i2i Stream Digital Music Broadcaster. The i2i Stream allows you to take any music source (MP3 player, home stereo, computer) and broadcast it between two or more i2i Stream devices. The technology takes advantage of the wireless 2.4 GHz frequency range, circumventing the need for Bluetooth compatibility, and offering a range of 10m. Each i2i Stream also comes with its own independent volume control and a USB-rechargeable battery capable of 7 hours of playback.

Ultimately, a product like the i2i Stream is attempting to take the mess out of sharing one audio source (probably an iPod) among many users. We remember seeing a similarly-priced product called SnoopTunes try this same concept earlier in the year, but with limited distribution and a toy-like production quality. Hopefully, a larger company like Aerielle will have the muscle to make a product like this stick.

The i2i Stream will be available online (with international shipping) in pairs for US$129, or individually for US$69.

Dell 3008WFP sets the bar for supersized LCD monitor

Philip Wong  |  Dec 19, 2007

We reckon anyone will fall in love with this sleek and huge 30-inch LCD monitor. Not only does it exudes high-fashion styling with its black brushed-metal finish, this full-HD-ready mammoth is also one-of-a-kind with a slew of connectivity options. It is possibly one of the first consumer-grade displays to feature the upcoming DisplayPort, a compact replacement for the current standard DVI socket.

Did you just murmur that there are no DisplayPort-compatible computers and A/V boxes yet? Dell has you covered with just about all the necessary video inputs known in the market. These range from a HDMI and dual DVI terminals to the legacy analog component-video, S-video and composite jacks. Furthermore, the 3008WFP is shipped with an inbuilt video processor that scales lower-resolution video signals to fit its luscious 2,560 x 1,600-pixel screen.

Just add a PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 Elite and a couple of high-power computer graphics cards for the ultimate personal entertainment kit. Pricing and launch details for Asia were not available at press time, though it's already on sale in Japan for a whopping S$2,950 (US$1,940.79).

One-stop Pioneer audio-visual galleries

Philip Wong  |  Dec 19, 2007

For most consumer electronics brands, a product catalog is the closest you can get to a hassle-free one-glance preview of a company's lineup. That said, nothing beats an upclose and personal experience in sampling a product under a conducive environment. To give its customers easier access to its offerings, Pioneer and its retail partners have recently setup two specialized home entertainment concept stores in Singapore.

Dubbed Pioneer Gallery and located at both The Adelphi (#01-02) and Sim Lim Square (#01-51/52), the new showrooms showcase the Japanese vendor's latest range of Kuro plasma TVs and LX-series A/V components. Besides onsite auditions and demonstrations to feast your senses at its "Experience Zone", there will also be inhouse consultants on hand to provide professional advice and recommendations to meet all your entertainment needs.

Android phone prototype photographed

John Chan  |  Dec 18, 2007

Gizmodo got a picture of a real mobile phone running the Android software initiative spearheaded by Google. Though we know that there is no Google phone, there are real devices out there used by the search giant to demonstrate the Android software, and here’s one of them.

This prototype bears a passing resemblance to some smart phones and we won't be surprised if it's just a slightly-modified Treo. According to the Gizmodo reader who sent in the photo, the OS is fast--faster than the desktop SDK emulator. Without a doubt, it's going to be an exciting year ahead for mobile phones with Google in the fray.

FCC exposes upcoming Toshiba handhelds

John Chan  |  Dec 17, 2007

Even though we got to review one, the Toshiba Portege G900 PDA-phone never quite made it to mass market in this region. No matter, perhaps the upcoming G910 and G920 might.

Spotted on the FCC site, the G910 handheld comes with a UMTS radio, triband GSM, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The two models are similar except one will have GPS and the other won't. From the pictures, the device will have a clamshell design, a change from the slider keyboard found on the G900. It looks more compact too--that's a good thing considering we found the original Portege handheld a little bulky.

According to the::unwired, the G910 will sport the same WVGA screen found on the G900 and is targeted at the European and Asian markets. We'll have to wait and see about that for now.
