Free Google phone in 2008

John Chan  |  Sep 19, 2007

Digitimes is reporting that the fabled mobile phone from Google is still on track, according to its sources in Taiwan. It was supposed to have an EDGE radio like the iPhone, but the same sources indicate that it may now come with 3G instead. That change will cause it to be pushed back to 2008 instead of late 2007, and HTC is rumored to be the manufacturer. It's all speculation, so here's some of our own. Considering how Google works, this will describe the Google phone:
  • It will be free to use, with ads
  • It will be the first mobile phone to stay in Beta while millions of people use it
  • It won't work unless you are online (better get that unlimited data plan from your operator)

That's our take--what do you think the Google phone will be like?
