Tolne camera: Throwback to the old retro

Nostalgia has a new home. With retro fashion gaining a bit of traction on the catwalk, Takara Tomy must be thinking: "Ah so!" These new plastic cameras use not digital memory cards but good old 35mm film. But the design screams cheap rather than chic. Ok, perhaps that's subjective, yet at US$35 for a camera with a limited feature set, it ain't dirt cheap, either.

Samsung to launch LED-lit monitor

In an upcoming event next Wednesday, Samsung will be announcing a slew of monitors to the local market. In the furor, two units will stand out: The Samsung SyncMaster XL20 and Samsung SyncMaster 225MW.
The SyncMaster XL20 is one of the few displays to use the enviromentally friendly and power-saving LED backlights instead of the conventional cold cathode fluorescent lamp (the first was the NEC MultiSync LCD2180WGLED). Other advantages of LED technology include a purer white reproduction as well as a perfectly even illumination.
The 20-inch LCD has a highly adjustable stand which not only tilts, raises and lowers, but can also rotate to full portait mode. There is a USB hub to sweeten the deal, but some users who prefer HDMI may find its two DVI inputs a deal-breaker. Aimed at the professional graphics designer, it retails in the US for US$1,999. Hopefully, when the product hits Asia stores, there will be a price drop.
An Intel-based mobile phone coming soon?

First, there was Google with its free phone buzz. Now it seems Intel might be casting its eye on the lucrative mobile phone market. For now, though, it's keeping mum on its cellular phone plans (if any). But based on what we've seen at the recent Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco, the chipmaker may be planning something along that line with its upcoming Silverthorne processor and Menlow platform. The concept phone design, like this model shown here (click here for a larger image), is one of the few prototype devices showcased at IDF that is expected to employ the new chip and platform.
Slated for launch next year, the Silverthorne processor is Intel's new line of 45nm SoC (System-on-a-Chip) offerings that will appear in low-cost and power-efficient devices such as Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and Ultra Mobile PCs (UMPCs). According to the chipmaker, the Silverthorne chip draws 10x less power than current processor offerings used on UMPCs today. This hopefully translates to much longer battery life for the next generation of mobile computing devices.
Asus P750 unveiled

You may remember the Asus P750 from a while back when a leaked shot showed what it looked like. Asus gave us confirmation of its existence then, and now, it has provided the missing bits of information. Yes, we have an official image and full specifications.
We knew from earlier that it will have HSDPA connectivity. Other features include built-in GPS and a QVGA display. Unfortunately, RAM, which is the temporary storage used for running applications, remains at 64MB, same as previous P-series PDA-phones from the company. Some flagship models from other brands like the HTC TyTN II come with double that at 128MB.
Asus says the P750 will be available in Singapore from December. We are still waiting for information about its wider Asian availability.
Update: Aside from Singapore, the P750 will also be available in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Decano Fake Sunroof

This one's so lame, it's funny. Brings to mind Mr Bean's foibles, which Asian Scrooges who want to catch up-with-the-Joneses should relate to. The DIY Decano Sunroof sticks to the roof of your car, looks real enough from a distance, even better at night, and leaves you feeling top of the world. All for US$24.99. And if the adhesive dries up, a little something called Blu Tack oughta do the trick. Now some smart aleck out there is asking if there's a holographic version for the inside, so the sunroof looks like it's open to your date in the hot seat. We'd also suggest it as a great idea this Christmas for cheapskate office mates who like to help themselves way too freely to your snacks.
