Is this the new Treo?

John Chan  |  Aug 27, 2007

Gadget blog Gizmodo got its hands on some leaked press images of the Palm Centro. The image shows that the shape of the new device looks very much like the previous blurry pictures. The color and perspective make all the difference though, and this new photo portrays the Centro to be much more attractive than the earlier leak suggested.

The Sprint logo is in line with the report that it will have EVDO capabilities. This works only in a CDMA environment, which means the Asia-Pacific region won't see it here until Palm releases a GSM version. Supposedly just US$99 with a Sprint contract, it is targeted at the low-end market, for those who want the simplicity of Palm OS in their first PDA-phone.

When contacted, Palm told CNET Asia that it does not comment on future product line-ups.

Sony Ericsson's new designer phone

Reuben Lee  |  Aug 24, 2007

It looks like the designer bug has finally caught up with Sony Ericsson. Its recently launched T650i takes a leaf out of the books of previous premium offerings such as the Nokia 8800. And like the latter, the T650i features a scratch-resistant mineral glass cover for its display and stainless steel casing. Adding to the uniqueness of the phone is an illumination effect that goes from the display to the keypad.

However, unlike most premium designer handsets out there, the T650i offers quite an extensive feature set. These include a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED light, 3G connectivity, A2DP Bluetooth stereo, FM radio with RDS, memory card expansion and an onboard media player. What really stands out is the unit's 12.5mm slim profile, which should go well with the fashion set.

As expected of a designer phone, the T650i, which will be available in Glowing Green and Midnight Blue, is premium priced at S$838 (without plan) and S$738 (with a two-year plan). It will start selling in stores across Asia from this weekend. Look out for our the full review soon.

More time needed for Palm's Foleo

Tom Krazit  |  Aug 24, 2007

If you were planning to camp out this week for the launch of the Palm Foleo, pick up the tent and go home.

Barron's Tech Trader Daily blog spotted a research note from Deutsche Bank's Jonathan Goldberg saying that Palm has delayed the launch of the Foleo, a Linux-based "mobile companion" that looks like a laptop but doesn't deliver anything close to a laptop experience. The device is now expected to ship in late September or early October, according to Goldberg. When Palm founder Jeff Hawkins unveiled the device in May at the D: All Things Digital conference, the company said it expected to launch it this summer.

In this case, the devil wears 24k gold

Mike Yamamoto  |  Aug 24, 2007

Just for the record, iPods aren't the only gadgets that can be covered in diamonds or dipped in gold. GeekSugar says Amosu, which gave us the gold iPod, has veered beyond Apple products and applied its 24k gilding brush to LG's Prada phone for just under US$1,000.

It's not the first time that Amosu has branched out, of course, given that it's promised to customize just about anything for the right price (or the wrong one, depending on your point of view). But don't worry, it still has more than a little ways to go before catching up with the US$1.3 million "Diamond Crypto Smartphone".

What lies beneath: Canon's latest dSLRs

Stephen Shankland, CNET.com  |  Aug 23, 2007

Cameras have always been marvels of miniaturization, but with the switch to digital technology, engineers have had to squeeze electronics and computers into camera bodies already filled with mechanical and optical components. Most folks only see the outsides of cameras, but the insides can be works of engineering art, too. Canon's latest SLRs, the EOS-1Ds Mark III and EOS 40D, are a good case in point. Click on the thumbnails to uncover the story within each.
