In anticipation of its quad-core chips leaving the factory floor next month, AMD is cutting prices off its desktop processors.
According to the new price list, all Athlon 64 X2 processors will be priced at under US$200 (S$303.63), with the high-end FX series going for US$599 (S$909.28) a pair. The FX chips are dual-core processors used on AMD's Quad FX platform to give quad-core performance. Strangely enough, The Athlon 64 FX-74 and FX-72 cost the same despite the disparity in clockspeeds. The slower 2.6GHz FX-70 and FX-62 (dual-core platform only) are also missing from the new list.

Samsung has been holding out on us. The company did say last month that it would be issuing limited-edition phones in honor of the Beijing Olympics, following the likes of Lenovo and its "Cloud of Promise" laptops. But they didn't tell us the handsets would be made of gold.
If not solar, why not wind? Apparently communications giant Orange approached gotwind to create a portable mobile phone charger that pegs to the top of a tent and utilizes wind power to juice up. In view of the recent Live Earth publicity, this is certainly a timely project. Comprising a 150g turbine mounting system with four "legs", the Gotwind Wind Charger uses a horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) with a blade propeller measuring 30cm in diameter. With steady gusts, this pumps up to about 0.5watts of power, reportedly good enough for charging a phone fully within 1-2 hours. From wind-up chargers to wind ones, this oughta blow the competition away.
It looks like everyone in the known world is up in arms against the iPhone. This time it's Nokia with a purported 8GB N95.
| Editors' note:
A Nokia spokesperson has said that the company do not comment on rumors about unannounced devices. So now it's back to the waiting game.

What a hoot. Now baby can go skiing, too. Thanks to Amazon, that stroller can now transform into an extreme terrain vehicle, capable of sliding over snow or sand using modified stroller skis that fasten onto the wheels. Wonder if they have baby ski sticks and snow goggles to match. That said, stick to the bunny slopes. Like it or not, junior's not ready just yet for that downhill championship ski run.
