Just when you got your hands on the Nokia N95 and the Nokia N75, it seems like there's something cooler on the horizon (as usual).
Images and specs have surfaced on two new Nokia N series phones: The Nokia N81 and the Nokia N82. The N81 looks to be a sleek quad-band (EDGE; 2100MHz HSDPA-lovin') slider phone with 8GB internal memory, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0. It's said to be replacing the music-centric Nokia N91 and comes equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
On the other hand, the Nokia N82 seems to be going the camera route with a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a Xenon flash. It's also a GSM smart phone (candybar style) and has built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, an FM tuner, and a microSD expansion slot. No details on pricing or US availability, but they're rumored to come out in Q4.
That picture-in-the-wallet cliché has been given a whole new image here. Rather than show off that wrinkled 2 x 3-inch photo print of your *insert appropriate apple of eye*, you can now display over 50 photos. The magic lies in a slim-built photo viewer that tucks neatly into the wallet with its plastic window corresponding with the device's 1.4-inch color screen. Images are easily transferred via USB connection to a PC, so there's always a fresh batch to show off. Pity the friend who asks to see your baby's photo, and getS a wallet-full of pictures ranging from her birth to her first step.
Price: US$59 Availability: Check it at Brookstone Device: Wallet photo album Specs: Viewer is rechargeable, no batteries needed, men's bi-fold wallet in soft black Nappa leather
For several months now we've been begging Motorola to give us a new cell phone beyond yet another version of the RAZR. Well now it appears our wishes may be answered very soon.
Just today we received an email invitation for a Moto press event next week in New York City. The invite didn't tell us much but it did promise that Motorola would present "The Mobile Experience" and that CEO Ed Zander and other company execs would talk about "what's next."
Editors' note:
CNET Asia will be attending a Motorola press conference on the May 17 at 1000 hours in Bangkok. We'll bring you the latest news about Moto's new phone(s) then.
We can only hope that "what's next" is something other than a thin phone. And according to the latest cell phone dish that will be the case. At a tech conference in San Jose yesterday Zander said Moto would use next week's event to unveil a "media monster" cell phone. The unnamed handset will be able to play full-length moves from SD cards and the video will show video at 30 frames-per-second (the same as on a standard TV).
Admittedly, that sounds petty cool but I'm not so thrilled with watching an entire movie on a tiny cell phone display. And of course I hope the phone can make good calls too.
But before you get too excited Zander said Moto will target the device at the European market to start due to the widely available 3G networks there. The device will come to North America as well but we have no idea when. Stay tuned next Tuesday as Crave will attend the event in force.
No, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. This calls itself the world's first folding electric guitar, which if you're a traveling troubadour, is just nifty. Thanks to a hinge mechanism made of aircraft-grade aluminum, you can collapse the guitar neck forward over the body with the strings rolled up into the instrument in a mere 20 seconds. According to the legend, SAS airline pilot Fredrik Johansson, an avid guitarist who clearly has to travel, took 10 years to work out a more mobile solution. At US$3,370, though, it's more rock than roll. But, hey, you'll still be the coolest strummer on the block, bar none.

The IXUS 950 IS is an upgrade of the IXUS 800 IS and, like its predecessor, will have the same sexy curves and optical stabilizer feature that had made the 800 such a hit. But as much as similarity goes, we are fairly certain it will share the same dear price tag. The IXUS 900 IS marries a light sensitivity of ISO 1,600 with a 2.5-inch LCD and will be capable of 8-megapixel capture and not-too-impressive 4x optical zoom.
Editors' note:
According to Canon Singapore, the IXUS 950 IS and the PowerShot S5 IS will be launched in end June and the end of Q2, respectively.
Like the IXUS 950 IS, the PowerShot S5 IS will have the same 8-megapixel resolution capture and an ISO of 1,600. This improvement to the PowerShot S3 will feature 12x optical zoom, face detection focusing technology and an Ultra-Sonic Motor (USM) in the lens barrel for silent operation.
