LG Prada: AMD inside

Damian Koh  |  Apr 03, 2007

While our European counterparts already have their paws on the LG Prada phone, we Asians have only the knowledge that an AMD Imageon media processor powers the handheld and an unspecific launch date to contend with.

Editors' note:
According to LG Singapore, the LG Prada will be available between the first and second week of May. No pricing details. However you'll be able to catch a glimpse of it at selected Prada boutiques across Asia.

Fashionistas probably couldn't care less about what goes under the hood of the LG Prada, but for geeks like us, we're more interested in the engine that gets the whole "fashion" thing going. To that, AMD announced today that its AMD Imageon 2282 media processor is what powers the rich multimedia features of the handset, not to mention the unique touch interface.

AMD has made its voice heard. Intel inside for the upcoming Apple iPhone, anyone?

Smile for the stick

Mark Rutherford, CNET.com  |  Apr 03, 2007

Thank goodness Princess Di is resting in peace, because this latest camera innovation would have surely made her life a living hell.

The ultimate paparazzi tool, the "Giraffe Pole Camera" developed by Macroswiss is basically a 21st century version of the World War I trench periscope but with greater capability, according to Gizmag. Think of it as something like a military version of the "Quick Pod".

The Giraffe is mounted on an aluminum telescopic pole that can extend up to 18 feet, allowing it to record images "from locations that are too difficult or too dangerous to reach by other means," according to the manufacturer. The recorded images are sent to a TV display worn on the body.

More important, its digital video recording and low light/thermal sensors make this "camera on a stick" perfect for documenting those awkward toe-licking encounters so coveted by inquiring minds.

New PVPs from Shiro

John Chan  |  Apr 03, 2007

Singapore-based Shiro Corporation has announced three new PVPs. They are the Shiro VJ, VT and ME2. These players all feature internal flash memory up to 4GB as well as expansion slots in different formats.

The smallest of the three, the ME2, has a miniSD slot and a 1.8-inch display for video playback. The Shiro VJ comes with a full SD slot, allowing you to augment its memory capacity to 4GB with the insertion of a 2GB card. Of the three, the Shiro VT has the largest display, a 2.4-inch one with a screen resolution of 320 x 240. It has support for microSD cards for expansion beyond the internal 4GB flash memory. The VT and VJ players also come with built-in speakers so you can share your music and videos.

ProForm 20.0 Elliptical CrossTrainer

Juniper Foo  |  Apr 03, 2007

Even more reason to workout now. Those developing the rubbery joints, slack muscles and concave chest of deskbound cubicle geeks can now have their gameplay and exercise at the same time. No, it's not the Wii which has yet to emerge from its hole in this part of the world. Instead, it's something a bit more gym-like--to assuage that guilt and let you feel you're actually working out--while integrating two GameFit interactive video games into the trainer. Multitaskers shouldn't have a problem shooting aliens while improving their pedaling and working out those flabby arms.

WUSB-Hub: World without wires

Darius Chang  |  Apr 02, 2007

The release of Y-E Data's YD-300 WUSB-Hub marks the beginning of the end for messy wires cluttering the undersides of your desktop.

Priced at 39,800 yen (S$512.67), it is certainly an expensive peripheral for a device which is, in essence, a four-port hub. The WUSB-Hub, however, is possibly the first product based on the wireless USB standard, which is supposed to allow up to 480Mbps at a maximum range of 10m. Unfortunately, early reports of this ground-breaking device claim a maximum bandwidth of 30Mbps at a distance of only a few meters. Nevertheless, it is a glimpse into a future where the only wire required for your desktop leads to the power socket.
