In bone conduction technology, sounds goes through the skull to the inner ear, bypassing the ear for hearing. This is how the Vonia Sports HeadBand works, allowing you to plug in a small MP3 player like the iPod shuffle before putting on the headband. This leaves your ears free to hear approaching traffic, which ensures that Megadeth remains an item on your playlist, not a description of your condition after a jog. There's no guarantee that jocks you might meet along the jog won't kill you for looking incredibly dorky, though.

Spotted at CeBIT by our sister site CNET UK is the new P526 from Asus. Updated from the P525 with a new design including a scroll wheel, the P526 also comes with Windows Mobile 6.0 (WM6). What's more, it features GPS aside from its current crop of built-in non-cellular wireless technologies (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and infrared). The P526 will be available in June, and may be one of the earliest handhelds to sport WM6.

The Taiwanese manufacturer looks at making its portables outdoor-ready with two rugged models codenamed the Highly Integration UMPC and the Rugged Military NB.
According to CNET UK's coverage of CeBIT, the Rugged Military NB is a 13.3-inch widescreen convertible tablet PC which conforms to the IP 54 standard for sand and water protection. Outstanding features include a GPS radio, fingerprint sensor and covered connectivity ports.
Like the ASUS R2H, the Highly Integration UMPC (sic) also contains a GPS receiver for navigation and tracking. However, unlike its predecessor, this UMPC has more in common with the Fujitsu LifeBook P1610 as it, too, is a convertible mini-tablet PC. It has a 7-inch 800 x 480-pixel swivel display with 1.3-megapixel camera and a power-saving VIA processor. Despite its size, the Highly Integration UMPC has the features of an ultraportable with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, memory card reader, Ethernet port, two USB, VGA connector and an ExpressCard slot. Taking public transport is no longer an excuse to be out of touch in Hong Kong, with VodaFone mobile broadband installed in selected cabs.
To enjoy free surfing while being chauffeured around, go to this Web site and download the dialer. Then stand around rejecting taxis until a cab with the giant VodaFone USB modem advertisement (pictured left) pulls over. Traffic jams will never be the same again if you manage to travel in one of these connected cars in the SAR.
While it may not be considered stratospheric in terms of its uniqueness, the LS201 somewhat apes the Philips Ambient Light displays with what the Taiwan firm terms as its Light-in-Motion effect. Located along the inner edge of the aluminum base, the ambient background light helps to lessen the eyestrain creating depth perception while using a monitor in a darkened room. This baby is also certified for the Windows Vista Premium version.
