iriver U20: D-Click goodness

Edvarcl Heng  |  Jan 05, 2007

After the U10, the Korean chaebol is all set to improve it in 2007. Rumors has it that the U20 will pack in storage flavors of 2, 4 and 8GB, along with a 2.2-inch active-matrix OLED (AMOLED) screen. The new screen may just brighten up the display while giving battery life a boost. Like the U10, the U20 will be supporting Flash content (games and movies) and the lovely D-Click navigation system. We can't wait. More CES stories.

Fujifilm's FinePixes now accept SD memory cards

Damian Koh  |  Jan 05, 2007

Fujifilm has recently beefed up its consumer entry-level lineup prior to the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, including also a midrange model with face detection technology. Three new shooters have been announced--the FinePix A610, FinePix A800 and the FinePix F40fd--and they'll all come with a dual slot that accommodates SD cards besides the proprietary xD-Picture Cards that are used by Fujifilm and Olympus.

Square CD

Juniper Foo  |  Jan 05, 2007

It's just a concept at the moment, but hopefully this takes off as it's way too cool to end up on the ideas dump. Part mood décor, part wall-mounted screen and part gadget, the Square CD should give sonic chic leader Bang & Olufsen a run for its money. The magic happens when the player is turned on, morphing from innocent wall tile to backlit player with a lighted interface you can maneuver just like a touch-sensitive screen. From what we understand, the corian-like surface works like one giant speaker, thanks to a little "magnet" created by smart materials specialist Feonic, which transforms the entire face of the player into a speaker. If this plays MP3s and DVDs as well, all the better. Price, what price?

Total HD to unify HD-DVD and Blu-ray?

Philip Wong  |  Jan 05, 2007

Studio house Warner Bros is taking matters into its own hands by introducing another new high-def video disc. Dubbed Total HD disc, it is compatible with both Blu-ray and HD-DVD players and poses as a quick fix for the ongoing standoff between the Sony- and Toshiba-led camps. After all, this will enable the studios to release Hollywood blockbusters in high resolution and, most importantly, a unified platform and standard.

The success of this upcoming disc format hangs heavily on the level of acceptance from the major movies studios. With Sony Pictures holding a sizeable stake in the Hollywood industry, chances are the road ahead for Total HD will probably be a long and bumpy one. We will bring you more updates on the technicalities once we get our hands on the announcement from CES 2007.

Fujitsu prepares 300GB notebook drive

Darius Chang  |  Jan 04, 2007

Editors' note :
The 300GB MHX2300BT Fujitsu harddisk will be available in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam from February 2007. Pricing information has yet to be released.

Like money, there is no such thing as too much storage space. For the mobile warrior, the latest 300GB notebook harddisk from Fujitsu should whet some appetites.

Based on perpendicular recording technology, the 2.5-inch drive, christened MHX2300BT, uses the Serial ATA (SATA) interface for faster transfer speeds. This harddisk is a cool 100GB bigger than the Toshiba 200GB drive. The new storage device should hit the shelves sometime in February 2007.
