ASUS gets tough on gaming

Editors' note :
Both the ASUS G1 and G2 will be available in Singapore from January 2007, with a cost of S$3,588 (US$2,638.24) and S$3,988 (US$2,932.35), respectively.

Looking to give Dell's XPS a run for its money, ASUS is hoping to hit the sweet spot with its latest mobile gaming portables.

The ASUS G1 and G2 belong to the same lineage and have similar specifications. Only the 15.4-inch display on the G1 and 17-inch LCD of the G2 physically separate them. Besides running with the latest Core 2 Duo processor, the G1 races ahead with the high-end 512MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7700 graphics card, while the G2 opts for the equally speedy 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1700. We expect to see some blazing 3DMark06 scores when our review units come in.

Unfortunately, we may not get to see the ASUS G1 outside of Taiwan. The G2, on the other hand, will be making an appearance in the near future wearing a tag of S$3,988 (US$2,932.35). A reasonable price to pay for a speed demon.
