The next time you go night golfing, get ahold of these nifty tracer balls. So maybe your partner might giggle over red-lit UFOs whizzing over the green. But we're guessing you'll have the last laugh when he's the one handicapped, and we're not talking golf handicap proficiency here. Unfortunately, all good things come at a price. These thingamabobs cost US$32 a pack of three, and--get this--the batteries aren't replaceable. You get up to 80 hours of gameplay on this. After which, like Cinderella's midnight spell, that pretty glowing thing is going to morph back into a plain, old non-luminous golf ball.
Looks like the Memory Stick PRO Duo just went one up against its competition with the latest flash format that can store a whopping 32GB of data.
| Editors' note:
May 27--According to the latest press release from Sony Electronics Asia Pacific, the Memory Stick PRO-HG will be launch in Asia in August. Three storage capacities will be available (1GB, 2GB, 4GB) at launch.

According to the press release, the new Memory Stick PRO-HG (High Grade) Duo flash memory card format will have a maximum data transfer speed of 480Mbps or 60MB per second (in theory). This is said to be three times faster than the current Memory Stick PRO format. Minimum write speed at 8-bit parallel transfer is pegged at 120Mbps or 15MB per second. However, these numbers may vary. For example, the Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo functions as Memory Stick PRO when used with host devices compliant with the latter.
The introduction of the new Memory Stick format is a result of the collaboration between Sony Corporation and SanDisk Corporation. The flash media is expected to be available in 2007.
Seems to us the humble umbrella's gotten its second wind. This one may not project images like the Umbrella Photo Browser, but we were tipped off that it's apparently the first-ever windproof-designed brollie. We've heard of bicycles and planes being put through the windtunnel test for aerodynamic fine-tuning. But this is the first that we're blown over by an umbrella going through the same stringent shakedown. What's blasted out at the end of this tunnel is a brollie that's virtually unbreakable even against a windforce of 10. Think uprooted trees, very high waves and reduced visibility. And it's all thanks to a patented asymmetrical shape that's a gust of inspiration by Netherland's University of Technology. Although in that sort of ripping gale, you'll be labeled certifiable to be even out of doors.
With High Definition gaining popularity in broadcast, gaming and home video recording, the traditional DVD media is fast becoming a bottleneck with its limited storage capacity. To meet the growing demand from high-end video enthusiasts and graphics production houses, Sony has announced the availability of its suite of Blu-ray products. This comprises an internal PC burner and companion recordable media.
This auriferous rendition joins the ranks of similar electronic products decked out in gold such as the gold Motorola RAZR. After selling a million units, Samsung is celebrating in bling with the auctioning of 10 YP-Z5Fs encased in 18K gold. Samsung is expecting the final bid for each player to hit 1.2 million won (S$2,007). It would seem the Korean chaebol is wishing not for a white Christmas, but gold instead.
