Canon's PowerShot A530/A540 may overheat

Damian Koh  |  Dec 28, 2006

Canon has issued a safety notice to PowerShot A530 and PowerShot A540 users with regards to a possible overheating issue at the area around the battery cover.

According to the notice, if the opening/closing spring on the inside of the battery cover sticks out beyond its regular position, it could cause a short circuit resulting in the overheating at the bottom of the camera, rapidly depleting battery life.

Affected shooters include those with serial numbers beginning with 21, 22, 23 and 24, and Canon is offering free repairs for the affected shooters regardless of warranty status.
