Hello Kitty 13-inch TV-DVD combo

Juniper Foo  |  Apr 12, 2006

Preschoolers are spoilt for choice when it comes to bedroom TV/DVD combo sets. There's Disney going straight for parents' jugulars with its cute Mickey and Princess color TVs. SpongeBob SquarePants has a line all for kiddies who prefer the yellow sea sponge. If your wallet can take the pain, Hannspree has also been spotted at CeBIT with LCD TVs in the shape of almost everything from a helicopter to a red fire engine. Nothing, however, beats our favorite lipless one. We're betting little girls will embrace the cuddly feline even if it's a TV, while older gals will fall for the pretty in pink candy-floss hues. Sweet.

Dopod users to get Chinese language support

Reuben Lee  |  Apr 11, 2006

Taiwan company Dopod is providing free downloads of the Mobem CE-Star Suite Version 2.8 Chinese Language Kits for owners of its Dopod 900, 838, 818 Pro and P100 handhelds. This can be downloaded at its Web site (www.dopodasia.com). The software will enable users to read and write Chinese characters on their Dopod devices. At the same time, the application can be used to display Japanese text.

Dopod has also announced that users can download free Mozart ringtones and wallpapers from its Web site. According to Dopod CEO Jack Tong: "We want to bring the same high level of innovation, personality and vividness in Mozart's music to Dopod users."

USB Cuffs

Juniper Foo  |  Apr 11, 2006

Nice one here with the cufflinks idea. The USB thumbdrive gets yet another creative spin as something an executive won't mind accessorizing with. Creator Tonia Welter has even plated it in sterling silver to add some aesthetics to the functionality. However, it's not clear if he's even selling this as a disclaimer states that "all objects on this site are still prototypes" and "not for sale!" Nor are we sure if he's serious about his creations since there's an oddly unusable Keyboard Tablecloth offered on the site as well. But at least we know there's demand for the weirder side of tech since someone's already asking for a USB nose ring/ tongue stud combo. Ouch.

Time for some real shooting

Damian Koh  |  Apr 10, 2006

When it comes to design, it can be very subjective. But this had us taking our hats off--for peace-time shooting (photos). One of Russia's manufacturing plants for hardware and optics has produced the Fotosniper, which consists of a Zenit 122SLR, a 300mm F4.5 TAIR lens and a rifle mount. Yes, you heard it right. It's a rifle mount.

Hand shake is inevitable, especially if you are at the telephoto end of a long zoom lens or megazoom camera; and that's why most manufacturers incorporate some sort of image stabilization feature or high-sensitivity mode (so you can shoot at faster shutter speeds) in their digital cameras.

But Zenith claims the Fotosniper is all you need for crystal-clear shots at 1/60 or 1/30 of a second, sans tripod. The Fotosniper comes complete with a rifle mount and shoulder stock so you can stabilize the camera against your body and minimize hand shake. Sounds wonderful to us. We're only slightly worried if this camera setup would actually create public hysteria on the streets.

So, the trigger doubles as a shutter release, right?

LED Writing Light

Juniper Foo  |  Apr 10, 2006

Hopefully your clients won't cough politely when you present the LED Writing Light as a door gift. Not another pen! And what's with the ugly bulbous orb? Actually, it's a whole lot more useful than it appears, being both a writing implement and flashlight. We can see how that comes in handy for writing in the dark or doubling as an emergency torch. Oddly, the makers of the LED Writing Light have made it waterproof as well. Maybe this ought to convince the boss to hold the next office meet by the poolside. Er, write on.
