Topeak Bikamper

Juniper Foo  |  Feb 24, 2006

Now if Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal had one in Brokeback Mountain, they could have explained why they were shacking up in each other's laps; this being made to house just one happy camper. Overall, the Bikamper is a truly cool convergence concept. When not mobile, the bike frame and front wheel double as poles that hold up your tent which itself sports three mesh windows and a starlight porthole. Bike, unfortunately, not included.

Looking for love online

Damian Koh  |  Feb 23, 2006

We have no statistics and we're probably speculating, but chances are you're more likely to get sued in the land of freedom than in a traditional Asian society. That's what happened to Google's popular image search function when a federal judge ruled that the small thumbnail versions pulled from other Web sites during an image search was likely to violate US copyright law.

So in the, ahem, interest of checking this out for our readers, we did search of Perfect 10 using Google's image search. Even with the SafeSearch turned off and after clicking through the first 20 pages of search results, we didn't find that many exposed pictures, much less nude photos. However, we can't say the same if the search string was changed to "beautiful natural women".

In this unusual tussle between an adult Web site and a prominent Internet firm, the Los Angeles judge said he would award Perfect 10 a preliminary injunction against Google. Both parties have till March 8 to propose the injunction wording. This apparently isn't the first copyright lawsuit Google is facing as reported by Declan McCullagh, a staff writer from CNET News.com.

The full report can be found here.

Smart TV is coming your way

Philip Wong  |  Feb 23, 2006

Couch potatoes rejoice! The renowned TiVo-style settop boxes are finally finding their ways to the Lion City. StarHub will be initiating a 500 subscriber-strong soft launch in March, followed by a full commercial rollout of its new Smart TV service scheduled for the second quarter of this year.

Enabling the two-way interactive experience is a new settop box with built-in DVR and cable modem functionalities. Users can expect exciting features such as 60-hour recording stamina, instant replay of "live" programs, second channel recording and parental lock. Not forgeting a user-friendly electronic program guide for easy recording.

That’s not all. Upcoming new features include concurrent multiple program recording, online chat, near-video-on-demand capability, SMS and email support. The monthly subscription fee for Smart TV will be offered at S$5 (US$3.68) per month, excluding separate charges for the DVR-enabled settop box.

Apple's next big thing

Juniper Foo  |  Feb 23, 2006

The Apple machine is revving up again. Once again, it's crunch time as the Cupertine team posts teasers to the press on the launch of mysterious, "fun" products. The date: February 28.

Will we be seeing new iPods? Can it be that the "fun" products will include a smart phone or even a table PC? According to Jasmine France from our sister site CNET.com, people are hoping for a new iPod but think it will end up being a PDA or new iBook, perhaps with table functionability.

As usual, Apple's keeping mum with the media. Only this time, instead of hinting at which product it will be targeting, the company has gone even more mysterious by just displaying a picture of a calendar with the date Feb. 28 on the invite and the line: "Come see some fun, new products from Apple."

What we do know is that the MNC has filed a patent for a touch-screen interface for the iPod. So that has at least fueled conjecture that a sixth-gen music player may be in the works.
